They whizzed past raptors and lizards, stegosauruses and triceratops. They got to the very middle of the city and what they saw made their eyes go crazy—a tyrannosaurus rex on top of a building, and a dangerous pteranadon circling overhead.
"Nathan, hang on to that rope and try to distract the T-rex,” the commander ordered, “while we get the bombs in the back. And . . . be careful!”
Unexpectedly, another T-rex leaped out of what seemed like nowhere. Nathan’s hands shook as he reached for the rope and slid into the air. Raptors everywhere hissed at him. Then two minutes later, he felt himself going back up into the helicopter. “W-what happened?” Nathan stammered.
“Remember, that was supposed to be a test,” the commander explained. “You may be face-to-face with a hungry raptor waiting for his dinner next time.” Then he said something unexpected. “You three are now in the DDS squad. In fact, the last test had a twenty-five-year-old guy. He did the exact same thing you did, Nathan. Except about the part where he had to wait until I pulled him up. He didn’t like it, so he started climbing up the rope!”The three boys laughed. When they went to bed that night at 11:00 pm, they slept in till 10:00 in the morning.
